How long can you stay in one spot without needing fuel, water, or food? I can even have a cold drink the end of the dayšŸ»! If it want to go somewhere really fast, then you'll struggle to beat the cruising speed of a passenger jet, it'll even get over the Ocean. Every mode of transport is a compromise. Well, in that case: My HiAce has a 2400cc engine.
It also has air-conditioning, a heater, 240V inverter, fridge, kitchen and a very comfortable bed when I finish a hard day of touring šŸ˜‰

It’s also interesting to see the comment on here, from fellow riders that took similar machines around South East Asia. Very cool!

Let’s hope next year goes well as I want to start my first travels a bit after March 2024 depending on some other events unfold as I like to be spontaneous. After that is when I will finally start leaving this massive country that is Australia, ride the bike “home” to Ausbie before continuing on to Europe and beyond.

I’ll certainly start posting more as time moves on and hope to also get some of my own content on Youtube going since this was a collaboration (thanks again also to Callum). But I’m in it for fun. Which is why I post so rarely.

Maybe to answer the question as to why I want to take this around the world?
After-all, I also own a faster CB500x.
The simple answer: “It’s more fun.”

This bike costs nothing in fuel, parts are cheap and it’s far less hassle to transport as it weighs less (shipping by air or boat). Because it’s light, not only does it open up trails, it reduces my risks. There is rarely a scenario, where I can’t pick it up unless I go somewhere ridiculously challenging.
I once dropped my “middle weight” 500x, in a slippery, low lever water-crossing that was quite remote too. Then I was lucky that I only had to wait for an hour for help to arrive as even “the technique” relies on at least some traction which wasn’t there. I’m convinced that I do have a light, but permanent back injury from that event.
It’s also just fun to arrive on a vehicle where people are surprised that you have somehow made it, people like underdogs (although this one feels like cheating). You would have also heard Ed March’s comments.

If I wanted comfort over high speed, then there are also better options than bikes? I could just take a more comfortable campervan, car or even fly. It’s an adventure that I can only do while my body can cope with it. Besides also maybe serving as inspiration for others that can’t afford to spend 20k USD on an Adventure bike or simply don’t have the upper body strength or gravity defying skills of a professional that rode bikes before they started walking.

Cheers
Tom

I did not hear about anyone trying to steal an election, thought the election was in like 2024. I did hear that Biden is getting impeached and then put in prison for bribery and treason.

The only reason I bought it was the focus on dirt riding ability and light weight. Itā€™s a dirt bike with a big enough motor to ride long distance comfortably.

I love this! I did the same on a Honda 175, but you got me beat.
That is how we did it: pile up the gear and bunjie it down and go. No special gear required (or even owned).

And the writer admitted it was “naughty.” So what? Attempting to steal a U.S. Presidential election, and effect a coup de tat, are definitely illegal, by virtual of violating the U.S. Constitution, yet 74 million American voters seem “okey-dokey” with that, so I think we needn’t worry about a couple of “scooter-barrier lifters,” don’t you?

I setup a group in 2014 to do exactly the same. We are recentlyback from the jungles of Cambodia after completing the “Royal road” or route 66. On our entire time through these trails we never once encountered and big adventure bikes. For 1 simple reason. They’re to heavy, to cumbersome to go on these trails and so sadly miss out on the hidden gems of ancient Kymer. I too ride large cc. bike but only on tarmac. At 350kg it will not go where I want it to go. Yes these bikes are low on power and wont go 150kph but they will sit at 70 or 80 all day. How fast do you want to go when touring? I also carry an array of front sprockets which go from 13 to 16 teeth. This allows me to go anywhere I want. It takes 10 minutes to change. Our bikes weigh about 150kg fully loaded for a 2 week jungle tour including water and spare fuel. If the trails becomes blocked by for example a fallen tree we simply lift it over. Another thing people tend to forget apart from the obvious saving on fuel, https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8018892039551aabd2ff3897ff8edf091de74f40248b629cb92323faf4003115.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/bd04cc6f65fa0fce51f357a967e8670ede1dd6d44adf5dbd1ef3f1f9c1f48ce4.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3c2737926ab63acc955d4b42bdee8e1bf9078ba08c8922e8b12f3bcf0015d521.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a804531083a55abeb94d04c359f9c7ada56440898bb8f8f57bdfa2f7083fc061.jpg is parts. They are dirt cheap to buy and easy to carry. Try getting your Ktm or Gs repaired on the trails if SE Asia….isnt going to happen and so ends your adventure. I’ve had many discussions about the pros and cons of these bikes compared to the larger tourers and my answer is simple. I dont see the larger tourers on the trails we go. I do see them on the tarmac and in the cafes. A link to my group if anyone would like to see or read more.

After a thorough refurbishment I’ve found I can have a ton of fun with this little bike going places in the forests and urban trail riding. I did have to upgrade the suspension ( these things must have been designed for 100 lb riders) and add a taller set of bars, other than that it’s stock. Loads of fun but don’t know if I’d tour on it. Yet.

I’ve had an excellent time on the Honda Wave in SE Asia, those are some of my fondest memories, but I don’t think I could go around the world with one even when I was in my prime.

If you have the opportunity, Bali is another fun destination for small bike riding, once you get out of the towns.

It got me places I wouldnā€™t take a big bike and certainly to places where I didnā€™t see any other tourists.
Sure, itā€™s not fast, but thatā€™s why they have shoulder lanes on the highways for scooters. I gained a huge respect for the capabilities of these little things.

That was gonna be what my next comment was all about and what he also mentioned at the end of the video : “…maybe just a bit more power so it can tour a bit more comfortably at 90-100 km/h (~56-62 mph) reliably”.
The speed limit here is 100 km/h and 90 km/h for trucks and you don’t want trucks overtaking you (constantly).
The Honda Wave 125i has 9 hp and all it takes is 15 hp (150cc+) and you can comfortably stay ahead of heavy traffic or stay ‘with the flow’ at other times.
