Checkitout, checkitout, checkitout! Here’s a big old look at Honda’s newest take on the Halfrica Twin formula. Yes, the NX500 is new-for-2024, but you can quickly see that it’s the old CB500X given a new suit of clothes and a nose job.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Honda’s 500-class adventure bike has been toiling away ever since its introduction about a decade ago, not setting any records but just plain getting the job done for many, many riders who prize reliability over participation in the horsepower wars. The latest update doesn’t pick up any power, either. It remains A2-licence compliant, learner-legal in Europe. That means engine output stays at 47 hp and 32 lb-ft of torque, but note that Honda has retuned the engine to make more power lower in the rpm range.
The bike’s new five-spoke aluminum wheels are supposed to cut weight and improve handling. The front end (a Showa split-function big-piston fork) has been re-tuned to match the new running gear. There’s also a new set of brakes on the front end.
Other changes include an updated LED headlight and a five-inch TFT display that’s the same unit used on the 750 Transalp series. The TFT doesn’t just show you speed/odometer/rpm info; it also connects to Honda’s RoadSync smartphone app.
Honda’s US website doesn’t show the NX500 at this point, but we expect the bike to be here in time for 2024’s spring riding season. Last year, the CB500X sold for a $7,299 MSRP in the US. Expect the price to rise a few hundred bucks next year.
