Just a few days after announcing massive plans to shift into electric motorcycle production, Honda now says it will launch its new EV lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this winter.
The reveal comes on January 9, with high-level Honda bigwigs on-hand for the release. As per the PR:
Toward its global goal to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050, Honda will introduce 30 new EVs globally by 2030 with a global sales volume of 2 million units. In North America, Honda has laid out an aggressive timeline of EV introductions leading to 2030 and ultimately to 100% zero-emission automobile sales by 2040, which includes battery electric and fuel cell electric powered models.
At its booth and through a dedicated CES 2024 website, Honda will showcase the global EV series models and several key technologies that illustrate the significant transformation Honda is currently undergoing.
As a recap of of the story so far: Honda made a massive commitment to electric motorcycles in the fall of 2022, but was mostly quiet through 2023. We did get the launch of the EM-1 electric scooter in the European market, though, with quick-swap batteries allowing for easier recharging. We also had an electric CR MXer debut in the All Japan Motocross series in late October. And then, in the last week of November, the promise of massive investment, hundreds of millions of dollars, into electric motorcycles over the remainder of this decade.
The impact this move will have on motorcycling is almost unimagineable. Honda’s moto division might not have the same zip as it did decades ago, but it is still the King Kong of the powered two-wheeler industry. The moves Honda makes in the next five years will steer motorcycle R&D into the future, and we will almost certainly see the opening plays at CES this winter. Stay tuned!
