Well, we figured this would happen, and it did—right on schedule. With a new 390 Duke model unveiled in late 2023, we suspected it would be at most a year before we started seeing photos of a new adventureized version of the bike. Lo and behold, that’s exactly what the spy photographers at BMH Images have dug up—what appears to be a 2025 KTM 390 Adventure.
Check out the pics that Cycle World has run here. They appear to show a machine that, in many ways, is exactly what fans of the previous 390 Adventure were asking for. The bodywork and riding position is definitely rally bike-inspired, instead of a minor update from the Duke series. If the production bike follows the pattern here on the test mule, then we expect it to have spoked wheels front and rear, with a 21-inch rim in front and an 18-inch rim in rear. This won’t please everyone; some riders liked the tubeless cast rims on the first-gen 390 Adventures, and complained about the 19-17 spoked wheels the series received last summer, which required tire tubes.
However, the footpeg position, perhaps the biggest bugbear for many 390 Adventure owners, still seems to be slanted forward in a street riding-friendly tilt. However, it’s hard to judge for sure without riding the machine, and when I tested previous versions of this bike, the footpeg position certainly didn’t hold me back.
It seems likely to expect this bike to appear as a 2025 model, since the Duke got a significant update for 2024 (more engine capacity, and some re-tuning—read about it here). KTM last updated the ADV in 2023, so a 2025 model update would give them two years from that investment.
