Voge continues to improve its adventure bike offerings, with word now that the Chinese brand is bringing an updated DS 525X to Euro customers this year.
Here in North America, we don’t get this machine, or anything else in this series from this manufacturer. Voge is an awkwardly-named subsidiary of Chinese manufacturer Loncin that makes up-spec’d motorcycles for the European market. Loncin makes machines across the low-to-mid-sized range. It has particularly made itself a name in recent years by building a parallel twin that looks an awful lot like Honda’s liquid-cooled 471cc engine. The Voge 500-class machines get a hot-rodded version of that same engine. We have not heard of any reports of issues with reliability with this engine in its previous configuration; indeed, it seems to be growing more popular in Europe, not less popular.
Along with this big-bored version of the Loncin twin (just under 500cc, good for 48 hp, 35 lb-ft of torque), the DS 525X gets other improved components not previously common on Chinese adventure bikes: adjustable KYB suspension front and rear, and a set of 19-17 tubeless spoked wheels. If you get the standard DS 525 (not the X version), you get cast aluminum wheels in 19-17 sizes (the previous DS 500 had a smaller engine and 17-inch front wheel).
These machines are supposed to be shipped to Europe in coming months, at a price less than the very-similar Honda CB500X; it seems engine crash bars are standard equipment, and a set of aluminum panniers and topbox are optional. We certainly haven’t heard of a plan for the US market yet, but if the Euro market continues to be a sales success, we’d expect it. We are in the midst of a big push from China to enter our market, after all.
As you can see from the promo video below, the Chinese OEMs are starting to figure this marketing thing out… but still apparently never thought to cut out the video footage of the photography van driving along the highway with the rear door open for shooting purposes… or turning off the hazard lights.
