Triumph continues to slow-reveal its new motocross bike with a video that shows the engine powering its new dirt bike… but doesn’t really tell us very much about it.
The video above shows the engine, but doesn’t give us a look at its architecture, or any hard details on horsepower, torque, maintenance timelines, anything like that. We’re not even told if this is the 450 engine that Triumph is developing, or the 250 (although we presume it is the 250 four-stroke pictured).
We instead get a bunch of quotes from the team working on this project. Ricky Carmichael says: “This engine has its own identity and I think one of the best things about it is the way that it’s designed and developed, which enables riders with a very wide range of abilities to be able to ride the bike. It’s light and compact and the power delivery is great for all forms of riders.”
Well, we’ll have to take the GOAT’s word on it for now. The rest of the team says more-or-less the same thing; it’s got a wide powerband, lots of low-end torque but also high-end power and usable by everyone, and so on. At least it does appear that work is pretty far along with the project, and we will actually see the bike revealed soon, unlike most of the electro-vaporware that’s come across our desk over the past five years. Triumph says it can’t give us an official reveal date for the whole machine, but does promise regular updates in the months to come, so they must be confident in its progress.
See Triumph’s previous reveal of its motocross chassis here—not much shown there, either.
