If you find yourself in Berlin in coming days, you might want to check out one of BMW’s latest additions to its motorcycle production facility. Along with the factory itself, there’s now an updated BMW Motorrad Welt in Berlin. Translated to English, that means BMW Motorrad World, and when you enter the doors, that’s what you’re going into—a world of BMW history, enthusiasm and culture.
The new building opened on September 28, the same day as the launch of the new R1300 GS. It’s on the grounds where the Berlin-Spandau factory is located, where they’ve been building Beemer bikes since 1969. The building that houses BMW Motorrad Welt is even older, built between 1914 and 1917. It’s older than the company itself, then, which celebrates its centenary this fall.
Inside the doors you fill lots to grab your attention. BMW Motorrad Welt will host interactive workshops (maybe you can pick up some tips on setting your suspension up?) as well as live broadcasts. Maybe you can take in a new model launch as it happens? There’s space to do meet and greets with VIP moto insiders; the facility will also host concerts, show motorcycle movies, and serve as the kick-off point for factory tours. BMW says there’s also a chance at fine dining on-site, depending what sort of event you’re at.
However, take note that this isn’t a museum. You’ll see history on display at times, but it’s not like Ducati’s official museum built into its factory (which is well worth a visit, should you ever make it to Bologna!). BMW Motorrad Welt is more about living in the present, with plenty of contemporary events. You can find a list of upcoming events here, and a big-picture look at the facility here. And hey, if you get there for a visit, please send us a note to tell us about it!
